Best Sights & Activities -(Beaches)
Delray Municipal Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
Ocean Blvd and Atlantic AveDelray Beach FL 33483
Description:
DELRAY BEACH. The beach at Delray is busy and well-frequented by people of all ages and persuasions. You'll see families on vacation, young people playing volleyball, and older folks basking in the warm sun. Parking is available nearby, as is a good supply of restaurants and eateries to take care of hunger pangs that inevitably spring up. The waters are ideal for swimming, and lifeguards posted along the shore guarantee that everyone is protected and safe. A good hang-out year-round.
John D. MacArthur Beach State Park
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
10900 Rte A1AWest Palm Beach FL 33408 561-624-6950
Description:
WEST PALM BEACH. Given Florida's rapid growth and tendency towards commercialization, it's unusual to catch glimpses of its undeveloped splendor. Thankfully, this park preserves a slice of the original, pristine beauty that first drew people to its shores. MacArthur Park features both upland and underwater acreage whose characteristics are detailed in the nature center's exhibits and videos. Trails through the landscape provide vistas of local flora and fauna, and beach frontage offers opportunities for swimming (no lifeguards on duty). Fishing is also available, and the area is ideal for quiet strolls along the water. Great for kids, too.
Jonathan Dickinson State Park
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
16450 SE Federal HwyHobe Sound FL 33455 772-546-2771
Description:
HOBE SOUND. If outdoor activities get your blood pumping, this expansive park provides more than enough diversions to occupy your time. Over 11,000 acres of land guarantee plenty of space for the multitude of visitors who come to hike, camp, bike, and picnic in the rugged surroundings. Since the Loxahatchee River flows through the park, there's also ample opportunity for water sports, namely canoeing along the river banks and fishing in both fresh and salt water venues. Nature trails, boat rentals, and tours of the Loxahatchee are also available.
Lake Worth Municipal Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
10 S Ocean BlvdLake Worth FL 33460 561-533-7367
Description:
LAKE WORTH. Children especially love this park, which has all sorts of activities to keep them busy. The beach stretches out with wide, sandy expanses to accommodate families, and a large pool with lifeguards provides a protected environment when the sand and saltwater get to be too much. A fishing pier lets young and old test their skills, and a playground gives parents a final chance to tire their energetic children before the evening sets in. If that's not enough, you can rent beach equipment in the area, a restaurant is located nearby, and just to make sure everything's covered public restrooms are available to take care of unexpected needs.
Midtown Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
400 S Ocean BlvdPalm Beach FL 33480 561-838-5483
Description:
PALM BEACH. If you're determined to hit the sand in Palm Beach, this venue is probably your best bet. Given the community's exclusive nature, public access to beaches isn't a priority, so Midtown is a rare luxury. In recent years, reclamation of sand has enlarged the beach, adding space for visitors and locals and nesting areas for sea turtles. Metered parking can be found in the vicinity, but during the busy season, spaces are often hard to find. So, enjoy the wide-open beauty of the shores.
